For starters, there wasn't much about the first game that critics felt was missing, or fans rallied around in addressing the developers. While fans and onlookers may have fully expected the critical and commercial success of Enemy Unknown to warrant a complete sequel (read our review for proof), this bit of news requires some context. These details are far from official, but given the track record of Steam Achievements outing major releases, we'd expect comment from the developers soon. It seems that 30 new Steam Achievements have been added for Enemy Unknown, implying that whatever Firaxis is up to will not be a brand new sequel to the XCOM reboot, but an expansion. The developers broke their silence in confirming that they would be making an announcement regarding Enemy Within at Gamescom later this month, but that may no longer be necessary. With iron man it forces you to play safe, not to take risks, in case one of your favorites goes down. After Firaxis Games seemed happy to take their success with XCOM: Enemy Unknown as a chance to relax, rumors began circulating earlier this months about a mysterious property known as 'Enemy Within,' apparently tied to the franchise. The really odd thing with the game is that you get really invested in your soldiers, and when one dies it is very disappointing. I have finished the game twice, once for both versions, but next time I play will definitely be the iron man mode. There is no saving until the game is finished.Įnemy Within adds additional units and a few new enemies, but I found with the introduction of MEC’s they are just way too over powered and the game is too easy to race through and finish. The only difference being you can cheat and save every move in case you make a mistake. They are like a simple mans electronic chess. What I will add is my reasons for why these games impressed me so much.

This is not a review of the games, as I am not a professional reviewer and there are a ton of those out there. Its not a big deal as I have over 500 games on Steam and it would take me years to catch up to the point where I am wanting something new to play.īut I digress. I am restricted to Steam sales and the occasional bargain on GMG to pick up anything new. This is in large part due to a policy of refusing to pay more than US$7.50 for a game. I was a little slow to the party with these two titles, as they came out in 2012 and I have only just discovered.
